Residency Programs

There are two residency programs available at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. The Bluefield Regional Medical Center Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education provides supervision of both programs including the scheduling of rotations, call schedules and didactic programs.

Depending on the program, didactic activities include daily Morning Report, daily lectures; EKG and radiology interpretation workshops, monthly Journal Clubs, and weekly Harrison’s Textbook of Internal Medicine reviews for first year residents. In addition to the Bluefield Regional Medical Center Medical Library, residents have access to the extensive on-line VCOM virtual library for a wide-array of osteopathic and allopathic journals and textbooks.

Family Medicine

Our Family Medicine residency program encompasses a wide-range of progressive family centered patient care experiences. Our residents will provide care to newborns, infants, children, adults, and the elderly in a variety of different settings. In our Family Medicine Clinic, as well as in our family practitioner’s offices, residents will be exposed to a gamete of patient-care situations that face the busy FM practitioner on a daily basis. From the newborn with failure to thrive to the well-child checkup to the senior in the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease, our residents will provide care in a variety of diverse settings.

Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine Residency is structured to provide residents with the fundamental knowledge and principles essential to the practice of internal medicine. The basic techniques of physical examination, the necessary skills for performing clinical procedures, and the capability to communicate clearly with patients, their families and other members of the health care team are stressed in this residency.
